LGV Courses / HGV Courses

At Wiseknight we pride ourselves on our professional and friendly attitude towards helping you start your career in the Logistics Industry. Our highly qualified staff will guide you every step of the way to obtaining your licence through our LGV training / HGV training.

We will send you the information pack which includes the application and medical forms and a list of the materials you will need for your theory tests. [If you buy the books you need for your theory tests straight away, you can be studying while you are waiting for your licence to come back from DVLA].

Once you have done your medical and filled in the application form, you send them to DVLA in the envelope provided along with both parts of your licence. [Take a copy of your licence before sending to DVLA.]

Once you receive the licence back with your provisional entitlement on it – you can then book your theory tests. When you have passed the theory tests, you can then start the practical training.

Any questions on the above procedures or you need further information on whether you need to do the initial Driver CPC, please contact us and we will be happy to answer your queries.

B&E Car & Trailer Requirements

You can, if you have your test passed before January 1st in 1997 tow a trailer because you should have B&E category on your licence. If the combination of the trailer and car goes over 3500kgs you have to work out how heavy the vehicle and trailer is. You will need the manual or vehicle Identification plate to work out the overall weight. The B&E category will be the minimum entitlement needed.

If the car test is taken after 1st January 1997 there will only be a B category on the driving licence. You can still tow a trailer but the combined mass of the towing vehicle and trailer must NOT exceed 3500kgs. If the vehicle has a maximum authorised mass of 3500kgs then the trailer must NOT weigh more than 750kgs. The vehicle manual should give you maximum trailer weights for the vehicle and you can work out how to keep the overall weights under the 3500kgs.

To pull the larger trailer you must have a B&E on your licence.
